For your Book Commercial you need to have read a chapter book at home (you may also read this book in class) that is at least 50 pages in length. The book should also be within your Reading Level (RL). It is a book you are just now reading or have just finished reading at home or part of your Home Reading Log assignment. Your Book Commercial includes a project and an oral presentation. Book Commercials will be presented the week of October 24th. A description of each part of this assignment follows below:
Project: The project for this Book commercial is a “Flip Book” in which you create story element cards. You will first be given a story planning worksheet which will help you map out some of the story elements. These will include: 1. Title and Author, 2. Setting, 3. Main Characters, and 4. Problem. The following week you will fill out the second worksheet to complete the rest of the story elements. These will include: 5. Funny or Exciting event, 6. Solution, 7. Ending. These two planning sheets will help you know what to write and illustrate on each story card. The story cards will be handed out after each worksheet has been reviewed. Once you have presented your Book Commercial to the class, your story cards will be bound into a flip book. Oral Presentation: The oral presentation should last for two or three minutes and include explaining and presenting your project to the class. Remember, your strong voice and enthusiasm will convince others to read your book. It is important that you *** practice, practice, practice *** what you plan to say several times. Each time you practice, use the story element cards as a guide. Each card will give you ideas for what you want to say in addition to what is written and drawn on the card. During your presentation, your story element cards will be displayed in front of the class.
Gradingis based on: 1. Assignments are turned in on time;2. Well-written descriptive sentences with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation;3. Neat, careful, colorful work;4. A presentation that has been practiced.
